The FA's Performance Lab - SEPT2018

The FA's Performance Lab - SEPT2018

from 153.50

A 10-week course, taking place on Fridays at Camden, from 5-8pm. The first class is Friday, January 26th, and ending Friday March 30th.

The class is a more intensive look at long form. Specifically, how to use long form philosophies and techniques to create and develop a new form – one unique to you, the group. Instead of following a traditional ‘class’ structure, the Performance Lab is a hybrid: half class, half show process. That means I’ll take on the role of teacher and director, along with Sophia Broido. And once your forms are created, the FA will take on the role of producer, putting your show up on the Camden Stage.

To be clear: The goal of Performance Lab is a chance for you, the students, under the FA’s guidance, to generate your own form. Not just the Harold. Not a Jacuzzi. But a new form. One that reflects your goals as an improviser, whatever they are, and one that is built around your strengths as a performer. When that new form is created, the FA will produce a night, so that you can perform. In March 2018, the Performance Lab teams will get a 10-week run at The Free Association Camden Stage.

That’s 20 weeks of Long form, in total. Yikes!

Here’s what your term would look like:

January 26th – March 30th: Workshops and rehearsals where we work on and create your own form. Under my direction, of course. Each class would have about 14 people. That means we’ll be generating two forms, of 6 people each. I will decide on the teams a few weeks into the course.

Attendance is pretty important to this class, so check your diaries and make sure you could make it. I know that Friday’s is a unique time for a class, but we want the class to coincide with weekly Friday shows.
